“Look at how ugly I am!”

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Brandon.

Brandon was funny.

Brandon liked to laugh.  Like this:

HA-HA

HA-HA

HA-HA-HAAAAAAAA!

One day, Brandon was playing by the door.

His Daddy was in the kitchen.

Brandon’s Daddy heard him say: “Look at how ugly I am, Daddy!”

Brandon’s Daddy was alarmed.

He ran over at once.

“Brandon! Why did you say that?’

Brandon had a big grin on his face.

He was standing on his tippy-toes, looking into the doorknob.

His face looked really funny.

“Look at how ugly I am, Daddy!”

Brandon giggled.

His laughter sounded like wind chimes on a sunny, breezy day.

Or, like a porcupine being tickled.

Brandon’s Daddy couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Ha ha ha…  You’re not ugly at all, Brandon.”

Enjoying his game, Brandon said: “Look at the ugly face I made, Daddy!”

He giggled again, grinning at his Daddy.

Brandon’s Daddy laughed. 

“You are not ugly.  But you are a funny little boy.”

“Am I a funny little boy, Daddy?”, Brandon asked, hopping up-and-down like a rabbit.

“Yes, you are a funny little boy, who makes funny faces, and hops up-and-down like a rabbit.  You are also very handsome.”

“Am I a funny little handsome boy, Daddy?”, Brandon yelled, as he ran to the other room.

“You are a funny little handsome boy, Brandon.   Even if you have a funny-looking face, you are still handsome.”

“Says who?”, asked Brandon?

“Says you!”, his Daddy said confidently.

“LOOK AT HOW FUNNY AND HOW HANDSOME I AM, DADDY!”

Brandon looked back into the doorknob.

Admiring his oddly-shaped head.

“You are always handsome Brandon.”, said Brandon’s Daddy.  “No matter what the doorknob says.  The doorknob doesn’t know any better.  Only you do.  God made you handsome.”

“That’s right, doorknob!”, Brandon said sternly, wagging a finger at the doorknob.

“Stop that right now, or else you get a TIME-OUT!”

The doorknob said nothing.

It obviously got the message.

Brandon and his Daddy went to play puzzles.

The doorknob never told Brandon he was ugly again.
