Maren is a Maven of virtual assistants.

A fly girl who is putting the Hammer to cubicle walls everywhere, Maren Kate’s knowledge on outsourcing is a necessary tool in your Rat Race Escape toolbox.

Maren is a serial entrepreneur.

She’s the creator of Escapingthe9to5.com – a blog about how to escape the Rat Race by building a lean, virtual startup.

She’s also the co-founder of Zirtual – a concierge service for outsourcing.   They help you find trustworthy, inexpensive and savvy Virtual Assistants.

Maren will be talking to us about her outsourcing escapades, how outsourcing helped her build her business, and what outsourcing can do for you.

Some notable quotes from the interview:

  • “Ideas are worthless.  They’re  a dime-a-dozen.  The thing that’s actually worth while is EXECUTION.”
  • “I was working on other people’s businesses.  I wanted to have a business where we made money because we were becoming more successful. And every effort we put it in was toward our own big brand.”
  • “It takes money to make money.  You have to be able to invest something in your business.  Nothing is free.  And I can’t stand when people want to find a free way to start a business.”

WOOOOO!

You KNOW this interview is H-O-T!

This was a very candid interview, in which Maren dispels various myths about outsourcing.  She tells it like it is.

Hey – don’t be mad at Maren for telling the uncomfortable truth! LOL!

Enjoy the interview.  Then go out and get a Virtual Assistant.

Bolaji, this was fantastic….thanks to both you and Maren! I listened to this while eating my lunch and now I’m going to have to go back and listen again later so I can have a free hand to jot down notes :-)

Glad you enjoyed it, Shae!

Yeah – Maren cracked that whip! LOL!
We should be outsourcing way more than we are.
And not in my random “Hire 11 VAs doing random stuff” approach from last year… LOL!

But in a more strategic fashion.

If we can’t think of how to use Virtual Assistants more, then we’re not thinking big enough in our business.

Really proud of the way you are producing great content around sound talent like Maren…A few less ‘cus’ words would help with in-car listening while the kids ears are in the corn (smile).

I really enjoyed learning about the unique ways Maren suggests using VA outsourced resources. I am considering signing up as a Zirtual affiliate and am really wanting to understand Maren’s firm’s system for filtering va talent (what is the evaluation criteria, is some form of test project performed as part of the selection process…etc)?

Keep up the good work…

John

What’s up, J Easton!

Long time no catch up! I miss our brainstorms. The BOSS (my 9-month old) has been keeping me quite busy during the day though. :)

Glad you enjoyed the interview. You’re one of the most advanced outsourcers I know… I think you and Maren would get along swimmingly.

I’d love to put you in touch with each other.
(You may need to quote some MC Hammer songs to get onto her schedule though – her V.A. knows that’s the codeword. LOL! j/k.)

Booooolaji!

Man, that was a pure Master-class my friend.

I hadn’t done anything about getting a VA since your review…but maybe its time mate.

Later MC,
