Let me tell you a story.

A long time ago…
In a place, not so far from you.
A magnificent individual was coming of age.
- Talented.
- Optimistic.
- Ready to change the world.
Our hero grew up in a regular town.
With a regular upbringing.
But early on, something was different.
Our adventurer had a calling, a definite purpose, a passion
that separated them from everyone else.
Our hero had an aspiration that was uniquely theirs.
The world could not wait for our hero to come of age.
The world needed our hero to
- Build.
- Create.
- Lead.
- Kick butt and take names.
- Build a legacy.
- Leave an imprint that mattered.
But somewhere along the way
Our hero refused the call.
Second thoughts and personal doubts
Thanks to the expectations of family, friends and society
Thanks to the difficulty of the road ahead
Led our hero to choose the broader road more often traveled.
Our hero came of age…
With dreams deferred.
Years passed.
Disillusionment grew.
“The calling” wasn’t going away.
Our hero could often hide it deep in the recesses of their mind.
In the Labyrinth of Lost Potential.
On occasion, “the calling” would find its way out
Each time this happened, our hero would revisit the Crossroads of Self-Determination.
Each time, our hero would choose the broader, safer path.
And each time, resistance to our hero’s true calling grew.
-
“Unrealistic.”
-
“Childish.”
-
“Unlikely to succeed.”
-
“Too difficult.”
-
“You don’t even know where to start.”
-
“You’re not an expert. Why would they listen to you?”
Each time, our hero would reluctantly shove the true calling deeper into the Labyrinth of Lost Potential.
As our hero’s inner voice was overshadowed by the darkness of fear, uncertainty and doubt.
And soothed by the familiar warmth of the crowded path.
But something was about to change.
Our hero was about to meet someone that would change the trajectory of this epic quest.
Forever.
On that fateful day…
Our hero had a chance meeting with a mysterious figure.
At any other point in our hero’s journey
This would have been a case of two ships passing in the night.
Exchange of polite formalities…
Conversations about the weather, family, maybe about common hobbies.
But on this particular day, everything changed.
On this day, the calling escaped the Labyrinth
Even as our hero conversed with this enigmatic but unassuming figure
The calling burst forth.
In an instant, the stranger seized upon the moment.
Shining light upon the darkness that bound the calling to the Labyrinth
The darkness of uncertainty and doubt was dispersed.
In an instant, our hero felt true to self.
- Alive.
- Purposeful.
- Determined.
For a time, the mysterious stranger mentors our hero
Providing our hero the advice, practical training, strength and courage
Needed for the journey that was to come.
Our hero learned to overcome the darkness of fear, uncertainty, and doubt
Which remained ever-present
But was stripped of its power over our increasingly emboldened protagonist.
Before long, the hero and the mentor found themselves at the Crossroads of Self-Determination.
- With our hero’s calling as a sword,
- Practical training as a shield,
- And the mentor’s sage wisdom as a map,
Our hero chose the road less traveled.
And now…
Now the adventure would begin.
